Grown in Niigata, Japan’s best-known rice region, this Koshihikari is the variety many Japanese households regard as the benchmark for everyday rice.
Niigata’s snow-melt water, rich soil and big swings between day and night temperatures produce grains that cook up glossy, slightly sticky and naturally sweet. The rice keeps its soft, springy texture even after it cools, which makes it a good choice for onigiri, bento and sushi as well as a simple bowl of steamed rice.
Why Niigata Koshihikari?
- Grown and packed in Japan
- Glossy, plump grains with a natural sweetness
- Stays soft and flavourful when cooled, so it suits onigiri, bento and sushi
- A 5kg bag for regular home use
Cooking tips
- Rinse gently 2–3 times until the water runs mostly clear.
- Use roughly 1.1–1.2 times as much water as rice, or follow the water lines in your rice cooker.
- Soak for 30 minutes before cooking (longer in cooler months), then rest for 10–15 minutes after cooking.
Storage
Please store your rice in a cool, dry place, as improper storage can lead to insect infestation. For the best flavour, keep it in an airtight container (or in the fridge in summer) and use it within 1–2 months of opening. Rice is not suitable for long-term storage, so we recommend avoiding large purchases. If you encounter any issues, kindly contact us within one week of receiving your order.
